Is Georgia red clay really what is cracking my foundation?
Check it against the survey. The USDA maps Madison, Pacolet, Gwinnett and Cecil soils across Cobb County and rates all four low for shrink-swell, because the clay is kaolinitic rather than expansive. Is this crack serious?
The width matters less than whether it is changing. Mark both ends, date it, measure it, and check again in eight weeks. Which signs matter and which do not.
Do I need a structural engineer, or is a free inspection enough?
A free inspection comes from the party selling the repair. An engineer charges a flat fee for an opinion and does not sell you anything. If you are likely to need a stamped design for the permit anyway, the engineer is not really an extra cost. Who to call.

What do you do with my phone number?
We share your name, phone number, ZIP code and description with that one contractor so they can contact you. We keep a copy for 7 days so we can trace a request that goes missing, then it is deleted. We do not sell it. Privacy.
Have you screened the contractor?
We will not claim we have. We tell you they are a local foundation contractor working in your area, and that is exactly as far as it goes. Get a second written quote and an independent inspection regardless of who refers you.
What if nobody calls me?
